The work examines relationships with my family and at the same time chronicles the fading images of my childhood. The baseball images recall moments with my father, the beach scenes a family life that I only fantasized about and Coney Island a place that seemed far away and mystical. My pastels are visual reminiscences of the forties and fifties. It seemed such a time of exuberance and optimism; the Atlantic City of my childhood, Florida with its pink flamingos, the streamlined trains, the carousels of Coney Island. These things are magical to me. My work has become a way to celebrate these icons of our unique and endangered culture, when seaside bathhouses were built like palaces and the Dodgers still played baseball at Ebbets Field.
