ARTcnet.com Fine Art Gallery Presents Israeli artist Yoram Ra'anan
The creative process, like life itself, continually changes and evolves. Working from all directions, I draw from the unconscious, the deep well of collective experience. The process of painting is one of creation and destruction, leading to new creation and discovery.

Birth is new and wonderful, yet painful; exhilarating but frightening. I see death in a similar way. Both are unknown, yet integral to the life cycle. In tune with this cycle, my work is a metaphor of life, suggesting something familiar and yet mysterious. Life is more than the reality we experience on the temporal level...it is blood and spirit.

Therefore, I paint of the here and now, earthly passion, love of the beautiful day, but also the recognition of night and darkness, and the need to connect with totality and something greater. The more I allow the divine to flow through me, the more transcendent and unique the work of art becomes.

Living and working in Eretz Yisrael, the Land of Israel, allows me constantly to touch and breathe holiness while at the same time to immerse myself in the intense, mundane and thriving dynamics of an historic people emerging in the modern world. These ancient hills and stones, with heaven so close and the pulsating vibrancy of a people so connected to the land, engender a rebirth of the miracles of life each day.

Inspiration from the Book of Genesis
Chapter 14 verses 18-20

The Bible story takes place before the covenant between Abraham and G-d (when the Jewish religion began).

Abram, as Abraham's name was before the covenant, always believed in G-d and was told by G-d to "go forth" from Ur. In his travels to Israel, he met the King of Salem, who became the high priest of G-d. The painting, The Gift of Malchitzedek, shows the gift of the king to Abram, meaning that the king accepted G-d in his life, and blessed Abram.
ARTcnet is pleased to announce that we will be making prints of Malchitzedek.  Please email Phyllis for information.

Our visitors have commented that Malchitzedek has been spiritually healing, especially when used in meditation.
