Papercuts: In contrast to the highly technical and expensive process of making bronze sculpture, the papercut technique is simplicity itself. The only requirements are a piece of paper, a sharp knife and a steady hand. I often choose this medium for subjects which are difficult to do in sculpture because of the necessity for background, or "stage props" as in Pharoah’s Daughter and Jacob’s Ladder. The discipline of the medium is to express the idea in silhouette form and to make sure that every part is joined to another so that the papercut doesn’t fall apart when picked up.
