| I have always
had a deep desire to create, whether it was engineering situations or direct art work - a
determination to leave behind a "mark" that I was here. When I worked as an engineer, I attempted to produce a work of art within the restraints of economics. When it was possible to leave the world of work requirements, I entered the world of art to use the camera as a painter would use a brush and canvas. My interests lie in the field of abstract and surrealism art. I admire the works of Vincent Van Gogh, monumental achievements in spite of obstacles confronting Van Gogh, including his personal problems. Twenty years ago I entered the world of art by studying under the talented graphic artist Robin Perry, in his Creative Workshops. I then proceeded to produce pictures, which I still do today. I personally duplicate every photograph in my studio using sophisticated equipment, and work with 35mm color transparencies. This includes placing two or more slides together and rephotographing the combination. In addition, I incorporate multiple exposures. The microscope is used as well to produce pictures that look like paintings. In order to have full control of my work, I do all the photographic processes, such as processing the film, printing the pictures and shooting the images. My normal shooting involves the use of a 420mm camera setup. Five years ago the computer and software became available. I normally use my existing slides which have been produced photographically, send the slides through the computer via a slide scanner and manipulate the picture through the computer. These pictures are then sent through a film recorder which produces rolls of film with the new pictures on it. |
