The image is made from ceramic tile with the sky being created from sodalite and rhodonite. The image calls back to a previous era when produce was brought to market by animal drawn carts, and fruit was picked by hand.

I. Mandell Mosaics: Self-Portrait of the Mosaicist, 1999 $1,800.00 22" x 22"; 56 cm x 56 cm. This self-portrait is an image of the artist at work. It is made from ceramic tile with mirror in the upper right corner. The sky in the window is sodalite; the chair cushion is rhodonite; the artist's eyes are tigereye; the head of the tile nippers are abalone. The sodalite, rhodonite, abalone and mirror are repeated in the upper right corner. There is a tiny piece of leopardskin jasper in the upper right indicating a minute image of self-portrait.
