Jeff Thomsen Animal Painting:
The Lion of My Self-Discovery $1,000.00 Image: 29 ½" x 21 ½"; 75cm x 55cm; Frame: 38" x 30"; 97cm x 55cm; Weight: 18 lbs.; Mixed media on paper; matted behind glass with light maple frame. This work was created from charcoal, ink, watercolor and pastel. Interesting shading effects occurred after mixing water color with the charcoal drawing. Aside from the conscious decision to place an African lion in the page, this piece developed purely from the unconscious. The lion's eyes remained shut, yet the animal is stirring to movement in his back legs. This image reminded me of both the tentativeness but also the inevitability and trust of moving in the direction of one's true, individual path. [Add to Cart] [View Cart] |

The Lion's Meditation Image: 21 ½" x 16 ½"; 55cm x 42cm; Frame: 29" x 24"; 74cm x 61cm; Weight: 10 lbs.; Oil Pastel on Mylar; matted behind glass with light maple frame. The Lion's Meditation is based on a sketch on one of the lionesses at the Philadelphia Zoo. It was drawn at the moment the lion (as many cats will do) drew inwardly in erect repose. This larger version of an earlier sketch developed with a great movement of color, perhaps suggesting a contrast to the inner stillness or, more likely, that such inward repose is never still but filled with light and movement.
