Dear Frank, In a recent trip to Israel, I was able to enjoy a selection of your handsome sculptures. I especially like the Torah Shrine, meaningful and with clean, strong lines. Welcome to ARTcnet! Phyllis Zemble

Dear Frank,

In March of 1997 I visited your store in Tel Aviv. I loved your round sculpture of Jerusalem. I did not buy it but did however buy a piece of jewlery for a friend that I was dating. I kept the piece till December and gave it to her as a birthday gift. She was absolutely floored by the fact that I had bought something in March after only knowing her for three months and then choosing work by an artist she loves. At that moment her mother took out from her display cabinet one of your Mezuzzahs. I could not have chosen a more appropriate gift. She loves wearing the Gamsa Chai.

On the 7th of March 1999 we got married. It was a very traditional affair and we were fortunate in receiving a number of wonderfull gifts.

In addiiton to the gifts, we also received money and on a recent holiday we decided that we should buy ourselves something special, a Frank Meisler piece of Judaica.

I would like the round city of Jerusalem and on looking at this website was unable to find the object. Would it be possible to have a catalogue of all your work sent to me at:

Hilton Berger

Hi Folks!

My husband and I are avid collectors of many of the Meisler Pieces. We are proud to own the customized Wedding Ketubot, Toldeo Mezuzah, Menorah Mezuzah, Gefen Mezuzah, Gate Mezuzah and Marble Bases, King David Centerpiece, Shabbat Candlesticks and Chanukah Insert and our problem Lion of Judah Candlesticks.

The Lion has mysteriously dropped his arm and can no longer support the candlestick, nor will his arm stay on. The piece was not disturbed nor moved, his arm simply fell out and He will need immediate repair by the artist.

Kindly forward instructions for the repair of this beautiful piece.

Thank you.

Dr. Shelley Chernin

Dear Mr. Meisler, My wife and I were in San Juan last week and saw your work displayed. I am 53 years old and have become more spiritual as I have gotten older. I have also developed more of an appreciation for Judaica. I have not seen your works anywhere and I must say I was almost overwhelmed with what I saw. I think your work is magnificent and would love to meet you if possible. Joanne and I are making our first trip to Israel in the beginning of February. I have wanted to go to Israel for many years but circumstances seemed to deny me the opportunity to visit. However, a month from now I will be davening at the Wall and I can't hardly believe it! Where is your studio and is it possible to purchase from you directly in Israel. I am asking this question but quite honestly I really don't know yet whether I even can afford to make a purchase but I would love to meet you. I look forward to your response and I hope you have a great year. Sincerely, John Reicher

Dear Frank, Back in the early 80's we met you in your studio and purchased King David on his Throne, the camel, and, shortly thereafter, a fairly large globe. They are still our special treasures. Since that time we have also found four of your very early wooden pieces and are curious about when you created them. 1. A tilted head rabbi, on a tube body. 2. Father and son ready for Shabbat 3. Bride and groom. 4.and today, in an antique store in Palm Springs California, A Hassid lying down as a big paper clip, his head attached with a spring.

You may or may not have received the message I just typed. The machine went off somewhere. The note mentioned that my wife and I met you in your studio in the early 80's when we purchased your camel, David on his throne, and a few weeks later ordered a fairly large globe, all of which we treasure to this day. We have also accumulated four wooden pieces and are curious about when you created them, if you can remember that far back. 1. A simple rabbi with a swivel head. 2. A bride and groom. Bride is dressed in white. 3. A father and son ready for the Sabbath 4. Today we found a reclining Hassid with a springed head that seems to be a big paper clip. Could you date them for us David & Sheila Epstein david@inpubco.com

It was on a whim that I decided to check out the internet hoping to find out more. Dear Mr. Meisler,

You might be interested in the fact that some of your wooden "dolls" made for Maskit - in the 1960s? - have been showing up for auction on eBay. I had two of them already and bought a third, shown in "Crafts of Israel." last week. I also contacted another eBay buyer who bought one of your Arab figures and learned that she visited your studio a few years ago with her husband and parents and is a big fan of your sculpture. She is not a doll collector - I am - but wanted the dolls - she now has three - because they have your name on them and are more affordable. I wish I could find more of these myself and have sent information about you to Jean Lotz, who has a Web site devoted to wood dolls.

Dear Frank --

My parents were extremely fond of your work; upon their death, their Meisler pieces were divided among the family members. One got the mezuzah, another the davening Rabbi (Reb Yussel, I believe), another the Song of Solomon plaque, and so on.

I got a the magnificent Lion of Judah chanukiah. (I consider this a legacy to pass on to future generations, just like the shabbos candlesticks my grandmother brought on the boat from Russia and my grandfather's kiddush cup.) Unfortunately, in the process of packing the chanukiah, I stepped on one of the glass inserts that allow you to burn oil instead of candles. Not quite as loud as stepping on the glass at my wedding...and definitely not as welcome.

Is there some way to obtain a replacement set?

I can be reached at dabrahams@phillips.com.

Thank you!

Dear Frank Meisler, I was very fortunate to be taken to your studio in Tel Aviv on my first visit to Israel in November, 1984. I immediately decided that I would have one puchase on this trip and that would be one of your beautiful, somewhat whimsical sculptures. I fell in love with "the Lion of Judea " that has a removable head. I continue to enjoy this wonderful piece of art as it has a prominent place in my home.I was wondering if there is a recommended method of cleaning this lovely animal. The grooves in his mane are a bit dirty. He is no#129/850. Thank you for your talent and your humour

I would also like to see any general catalog you publish with the other artists, as well.

We were introduced to your work in October 1987 when we visited your gallery in Jaffa with our local rabbi (we live in Florida, USA). We knew immediately that we couldn't return home without one of your beautiful works of art. Your Noah's Ark has held a place of honor in our home all these years. We love Noah, the ark, and the animals as you portrayed them - looking at them brings us joy. My wife and I have been to Israel a number of times and seen Mr. Meisler's workshop and showroom. My wife greatly admired the sculptures that had little doors that one could open to reveal other sculptures. The only one I remember is Noah's Ark.

The only reason that we didn't buy then was price. Price is still a problem but I would like to buy her something from Mr. Meisler for Chanukah, obviously not the Ark but something smaller which would still have those little doors.

Could you help me out with this?

Thank You

Sheldon Lebowitz jule143@aol.com

I was hoping you could give me some information on what i believe is a candle holder. I found it at a local thrift store, it is an elephant made of wood and 'Studio Frank Meisler' is stamped or carved on the bottom. I was not familier with your work so I thought I could find out something on the internet. From what I could see wood isn't a material you use a whole lot. It also appears to have been made for a child. So, if you do have any information on this could you please email me at holwell_t@hotmail.com

thanks, Tanya

We bought a sitting camel (676/730) when we visited Israel in 1996 and think your sculptures are great!

My wife absolutely loves the character of your camel and out of all the pieces we own it is her favorite. We are looking for a suitable companion to this work.

Seperate from this, my wife is a teacher and I own a business. We would like to commission some work - A female teacher, mid-forties and still very good looking with a great figure. A businessman, mid forties, small, handsome (according to his wife) with dark hair. (digital photos can be supplied if required) and my favorite hobby is scuba diving.

If you are interested in doing this let us know

Very kind regards,

Alan and Christine Lawson (alawson@diamed-gb.co.uk_

Dear Mr. Meisler We have the original Noah's Ark which we purchased in Israel thirteen years ago. Somehow, the latch for the little door has disappeared and I was wondering how I can replace it. Any thoughts. I would very much like to have a catalogue sent as well. My best to you and thank you for all the joy you have brought to our home. We love our Noah's Ark. Magnificent work. "Discovered" the Ketchican gallery on a cruise several years ago and fell in love with several pieces -- notably Ephraim the Goat and the large compartmented Freud -- but just could not afford to buy. Will be there again next month and am eagerly anticipating another viewing and another internal struggle between the desire to own a Frank Meisler piece and the inbred urge to be practical. This time, I hope to win.

Shalom, I received your Torah Shrine from the Jericho Jewish Center in Jericho NY (Long Island)as a gift for 41 years of dedicated service to the synagogue. The appraisal at the time was $6,000 from you. I need a new appraisel for the item for my insurance company. Can you tell me how I get this? I have the old appraisel I could fax you if you need. Please email me at zaydesjm@aol.com and my daughter at tvbonnie@aol.com and we will do what is needed. Thank you so much for your help. Bernard Berko

Shalom, I am entranced by Frank Meisler's work-Jerusalem Chanukkiah. I would like to feature this in full color on the cover of my Chanukah edition, December 5th. My newspaper, The Jewish Voice, is the newspaper of record for the Jewish community of Delaware. I would include a brief bio of Frank Meisler as well as a description of the piece and a link to your website for ordering requests. Would Mr. Meisler be amenable to these arrangements? I can be reached via email at lynn.edelman@shalomdel.org or by phone at 302-427-2100, ext. 11. Many thanks, Lynn Edelman, Editor

Dear Mr Meisler,

My wife and I recently bought two sculptures of yours. One of them was "The Chef," which unfortunately the inner piece within his belly came off. It is in one piece (plate with bottle and fish). My question is how should I attach this piece back. Can I use superglue? Or will that harm the material? Please let me know. My email address is: lukacsp@hotmail.com

My wife and I admire the beauty and style of your sculptures. We plan to purchase several more in the future.

Thank you.

Peter Lukacs

I need to know how get wax out of a menorah. Thank you.  ANSWER: You may wash the menorah with warm water.  I think that if the wax is stubborn, you may use a hair dryer to melt the wax.
