Israeli artist Elyah Succot
As a young boy in the United States, I painted what I saw and felt; as a young man I continued expressing myself through my paintings and found some success exhibiting my artworks. Upon coming to Israel in 1969 with my wife and son, I became involved with religious studies and spent two years in a Yeshiva in Jerusalem. After that time we moved to a small village on the Sea of Galilee.

Inspired by the beauty of the Galil and the Holiness of Eretz Yisrael, I began synthesizing my earlier years as an artist with my new life as a totally committed Jew. At the end of the Yom Kippur War, my paintings became more and more charged with prayers for the final redemption - praying, dancing figures, the Torah, revelations of inner and outer light, the land and the sky of Israel, amidst bright pastel colors imbued with great hope and promise.

We returned to Jerusalem after six years in the Galil. Here, in the Holy City, I balance my time - nights and parts of my days immersed in Torah study in a Yeshiva minutes from the Holy Wall and each day carving out time to work on my paintings and filling private orders for commissions throughout the Jewish world. Please contact phyllis@artcnet if you would like a commissioned artwork.

Keter - The Crown

The water of the Torah emanates from the Upper Worlds,
enlightening the older rabbi;
the younger student drinks in each word,
growing like a tree,
firmly planted by a brook of flowing waters.

And all the souls of Israel,
carved out from under the Throne of Glory,
together with the angels from Heaven,
extoll the Living King.
